FAQ

  • What does a session cost?

Good question! We’re choosing not to show prices because every client is different. We can offer a per-hour, per-day, or even per-song rate depending on your needs.

Additionally, we offer a flat hourly rate of £30p/h if you’re looking to rent the space for filming or rehearsals.

  • How does booking work?

Use the contact form on the website, or DM us on Instagram or Facebook. I do answer all emails, so on the off chance I missed your first email, fire me a second one. We’ll have an in-person meeting and tour of the studio, after that, MLS will take a deposit. All you need to do then is turn up on time.

  • What do you need before recording?

The more stuff you can give me, the better. If you’re a singer-songwriter, for example, I’ll typically ask for a demo recording (nothing fancy) of the song, along with any reference tracks. Exact same for bands, except I’ll need to know your lineup and what equipment you’re bringing. If you’re a producer, I’d like guide tracks, and you’ll need a technical demo of the studio before I can let you go wild.

  • What do you offer?

Market Lane Studios offers recording, mixing and production. We don’t do mastering in-house, but I have several mastering engineers that I work with.

We are also proud to offer the space for performance, oh, and we teach Rockschool Music Production Grades 3-8 in group classes - more info on that to come.

  • Do you rent out backline?

We do indeed. We have an extensive selection of high-end mics, amps and drum kits, all cased up and ready to go. Happy to deliver across Northern Ireland too. Pop us a message.

  • Are walk-ins ok?

Sure! When no one is using the space, our reception becomes a music shop and social space (with free coffee). If you’re passing through Lisburn, I’m more than happy for you to tour the studio.

Walk-in recordings will incur additional cost, though, so I do recommend emailing ahead.

  • How will I receive my recordings?

    That’s project-dependent.

If you’re only using the space to record, you will receive industry-standard deliverables, ie unaltered stems.

If production or mixing is involved, you’ll receive a stereo master and a collection of stems to be mastered at your discretion.

These will be handed over to you on a USB storage device, and then you can do what you like.

  • Do you allow guests during sessions?

Yes - with the caveat that I must know beforehand, it’s a fire safety issue.

  • Cancellations?

Your deposit is refundable up to 36 hours before your session; once that time passes, I will be unable to process your refund, though I am more than happy to rearrange a time for you to record.
